Have You Ever Served in the Military?

Connecticut's VA Commissioner: Asking a Simple Question can be a "Real Game Changer" to Improve Health

5/12/2014

Linda Schwartz, the Connecticut Commissioner of Veteran's Affairs and Academy fellow, spoke at Quinnipiac University School of Health Science and the School of Nursing's graduation ceremony. In her remarks, she told the graduating class a story about a Veteran, who suffered for years with chronic pain, and was finally asked if he served in the military. As a Veteran, he was exposed to Agent Orange. With this new information, he finally received the proper treatment.

Read Commissioner Schwartz's full remarks.

Ultimately, said Schwartz, asking patients "Did you serve?" will lead to the most important outcome: better care for veteran patients.
